The Sonus Gateway Mobile Switching Center (MSC) solution provides a seamless transition from the circuit-based switch architecture of the past to the all-IP wireless network of the future. Sonus' unique, hybrid TDM/IP switches allow network operators to provide full interoperability between TDM and IP sessions, then gradually shift to an all-IP architecture simply by swapping cards in the media gateway. This logical migration path allows mobile operators to reap the benefit of Sonus' simplified, robust IP-voice architecture and centralized routing today while capping investment in a costly, legacy TDM architecture.
The Sonus Gateway MSC solution uses an efficient "IP cloud" architecture to interconnect MSCs in the network, replacing the complex mesh architecture and removing the number of trunk groups needed to support the network. In addition to reducing infrastructure and TDM switch maintenance costs, the Sonus solution also provides ubiquitous access to IP-based application servers, opening the network to new revenue-generating services like ringback tones and fixed-mobile convergence offerings.
