NBS9000 Network Border Switch

Based on the Sonus GSX Open Services Platform, the Sonus NBS9000 allows operators to satisfy all their security, border control and media services requirements within an integrated, easily managed system. The NBS9000 can operate in a hybrid TDM-IP environment or in pure IP applications.

Reliable

The NBS9000 is a proven solution that integrates security, call control, Quality of Service, advanced media services and switching all within a scalable platform. Its chassis-based design provides redundancy mechanisms for 99.999% or better availability and hot- swappable cards for in-service replacement and live upgrades.

Secure

The Sonus NBS9000 provides a robust suite of security features for both signaling and media. Encryption is available as either TLS or IPSec for signaling and Secure RTP for media. Other security features include traffic policing, DoS and DDoS attack detection and blocking, and rogue RTP protection.

Onboard Transcoding

The integrated media services include media transcoding, recorded tones and announcements, DTMF relay and interworking, and support for data (modem) and T.38 fax relay or interworking. Combined with the Sonus PSX centralized route server, the NBS9000 leverages the same policy-based packet switching features that drive Sonus IP-based voice networks around the world.

Quality Assurance

QoS management features such as Call Admission Control (CAC), per-flow resource management, GR-477 traffic control, QoS packet remarking, call rate and registration rate-limiting combine to provide a system that is robust under heavy load while maintaining a high-quality user experience.

Miercom Performance Verified

Last quarter Miercom evaluated the call handling ability of the NBS9000 under a variety of specific adverse use case scenarios and was "pleased with the overall results".

Download the Miercom Session Border Controller NBS9000 Lab Testing Summary Report which overviews key findings and conclusions:

  • NBS9000 successfully registered 300,000 user authenticated NATTED IADs in 22 minutes at a rate of 232 registrations per second during a simulated metro area outage and recovery scenario
  • Sonus Network Border Switch maintains call processing of over 21,500 simultaneous calls while under attack from spoofed IPs
  • NBS9000 scalability was proven with more than 27,000 simultaneous calls at 119 cps, 3000,000 IADs

"We are witnessing consistent growth and market demand for VoIP as well as other IP services…we needed to be able to scale to meet this growth cost effectively with an integrated solution for both TDM and VoIP services. The Sonus GSX9000 media gateway has proven reliable for 360networks and we look forward to adding the NBS functionality as a catalyst for our continued expansion of services."

"We selected Sonus Networks because we wanted a solution from a single vendor that would provide immediate economic benefits and enable our infrastructure to deliver new voice services to our customers in the coming years."

"Even though the Session Border Control function has evolved to cover many more functions, such as routing and media interworking, the basic functionality of connectivity and security still must be executed without compromise for a service provider or large enterprise to trust their network border to an SBC."

"We are bringing together significant volumes of TDM (Time-Division Multiplexing) or traditionally switched and IP traffic from two large networks...I am extremely pleased with the quality, reliability and speed of this deployment. We expect to achieve cost savings and efficiency gains from our new IP core network as well as from the ability to centrally manage our voice traffic across our fiber backbone."
